Disney+ Hotstar has been rebranded and content from JioCinema has been added to form JioHotstar. All pages in JioCinema are redirecting to JioHotstar. Though, Disney+ Hotstar or Hotstar continue to exist in other territories, so it would not be right to move this Wiki page to JioHotstar. Indedits (talk) 03:00, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment : Don't move this page as it is improper. This is absolutely not a "move" case. JioHotstar is a seperate entity. Disney+ Hotstar is available internationally too. JioStar OWNS JioHotstar.
Important note: Also it was announced that JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar were merged to form JioHotstar. It is equally important to note that JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar have different holding and ownership patterns. The newly formed entity is entirely owned by JioStar. Earthismyworld (talk) 05:12, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Move: JioHotstar is working with same Disney+ Hotstar App. They deleted Jiocinema and transfered it's content to Disney+hotstar and Rebranded it as JioHotstar. So, Move will be a better option. UNITED BLASTERS (talk) 05:35, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Only India version is rebranded to JioHotstar, the Southeast Asia version remains as Disney+ Hotstar right now. 2001:1970:57A3:F400:549B:6EE0:B0A1:1678 (talk) 19:59, 25 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Indian version is dominant one, considering it. Only Move is a better option UNITED BLASTERS (talk) 05:29, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
In my opinion we should wait until the dust settles, and if a split is required, this article is majorly about the Indian service and should remain so, while the others should be split out. Arnav Bhate (talkcontribs) 05:36, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
The sources available currently suggest holding patterns, so I differ. Earthismyworld (talk) 05:38, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Share these sources. The app and the domain both are owned by Star India Private Limited, which went by Disney Star before and goes by JioStar now. So in my opinion, there is still one streaming service still owned by the same entity with a name change. Arnav Bhate (talkcontribs) 07:28, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
10s of sources are listed with a simple google search. Nevertheless, let's wait for more inputs. Earthismyworld (talk) 07:51, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
I don't care about Google search, you link the sources that support your view here. Arnav Bhate (talkcontribs) 07:59, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ok don't care. Wikipedia lets reviewers/administrators see Bing, Google, newspapers, journals by default. Earthismyworld (talk) 08:01, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
I want you to enter your sources in this discussion. What's hard in that? Shouldn't be a problem if you can find tens of them. The burden of proof rests on you as the one making the claim. My advice was to wait and watch. Arnav Bhate (talkcontribs) 10:20, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Earthismyworld: Share your sources, I can't find any. Right now this discussion is without any sources, so I'll add some Hotstar's website is owned by Star India Private Limited aka JioStar. Arnav Bhate (talkcontribs) 14:16, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
I can however see that the iOS apps for SE Asia countries are published by a different entity than in India. I can't verify for play store however. Arnav Bhate (talkcontribs) 14:27, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Looking at the apps in wayback machine, they were always separate. So now I am in favour of split, however the SEA version should be split out as majority of the content here is about the Indian version.

Strongly Agree: Create seperate pages for both JioHotstar and Disney+ Hotstar as Disney+Hotstar is still available in many countries.. PageMoverNEW (talk) 08:46, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Split pages jiocinema redirects to jiohotstar split content from this page 106.221.188.201 (talk) 11:04, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose rename. Based on the sources in the article, it appears the JioHotstar branding is primarily being used in India while "Hotstar" and "Disney+ Hotstar" are still being used internationally. We should wait to see if the Indian brand overtakes this one in the long term to become the common name. I don't think there is enough standalone notability for JioHotstar to warrant a split, and this article can adequately cover this rebranding and new app in a subsection. Trailblazer101 (talk) 17:33, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose - Another attempt at using Wikipedia for branding purposes. See the multiple discussions here which is related. We don't keep switching names of things just because the company wants us to. --CNMall41 (talk) 18:23, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

My opinion is that the Indian and SEA versions of the service were always separate and maybe should not have been combined in a single article in the first place. This article is mostly about the Indian version, so if a split were to happen, the SEA version should be split out and this page be moved to the common name for the service in India, which may or may not be JioHotstar. The title for the SEA service article should not be just Disney+ Hotstar, but should be disambiguated with the Indian service. However, for now we should wait for the dust to settle. Arnav Bhate (talkcontribs) 19:03, 14 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, we still don't have any news on whether Disney+ in Indonesia, Malaysia & Thailand will planned to split the Hotstar brand aside. If they planned to migrate to the Disney+ PH server, they would need to informed in advance. Other than just that, I don't think the split proposal would going to be rolling out just yet. VernardoLau (talk) 10:00, 15 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Move:
Jio hotstar is continuing the hotstar app & domain.
JioCinema is redirecting to Jio Hotstar that uses hotstar history. Hence move should be alright. Ogambo obmagom (talk) 14:48, 15 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
JioHotstar is thus far only used in India, not in international regions where Disney+ Hotstar or just Hotstar are still operating and being used. Any move to the Indian JioHotstar name would be too much of a WP:RECENTISM bias for one region's rebranding. Trailblazer101 (talk) 15:23, 15 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
For transparency, there was an article created at Jio Hotstar (without spacing), but I have now redirected that back to this article as a split is not warranted yet. Trailblazer101 (talk) 17:55, 16 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment: I think SEA version of Disney+ Hotstar should be separated from the article. Same goes for the list of original programming and original films as well. We don't know if SEA version will gonna rebrand to only Disney+ in the future, since Disney+ Hotstar in the Southeast Asia mostly from Disney+ contents. Even Hotstar India shows and films (branded as Hotstar Specials) are unavailable now in the SEA version. Enperfectify World (talk) 14:45, 18 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
There is absolutely no need to split them up now, as this article is relatively small and comfortable to navigate, and any split would result in both articles having questionable standalone notability. We cannot predict how notable the SEA version (or other fully Disney owned ones) will be in the future or how notable the JioHotstar version will be should it expand to other regions, and we can not ask a crystal ball to tell us. They could, hypothetically, rebrand select regions to JioHotstar years later and then sell their Disney stake, which would then leave content riddled throughout various articles. For the time being, it can all remain comfortably in this one until we have a better idea of what their branding plans are. Trailblazer101 (talk) 05:29, 19 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment : There is no need to create/split a new article for Indian version as the current article is predominantly about the Indian service. I think the one that should be split is about the SEA one. Since the beginning, the SEA, Singapore, Canada & UK services are fully owned by Disney, and the content in those territories is primarily from Disney+. Although the Hotstar brand was introduced by Star India, I don't know if the brand was added in SEA because Star India controls them. Also, we should wait and see how the company structure is instead of hurrying. The financial year 2024-2025 is going to end on March 2025. All the companies would have to reveal about themselves in their yearly report. It will become clearer by then. Coolduckbird (talk) 05:12, 19 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Separate articles ( Disney+ Hotstar for SEA & JioHotstar for India) may not meet notability guidelines right now. Also, as I mentioned, this article is mostly about Indian one and started as just Hotstar, an Indian website owned by Star India. After the acquisition by Disney India, Star India was renamed to Disney Star later. Disney Star was fully owned by Disney India, which is again, fully owned by The Walt Disney Company. Now, after the joint venture between Disney Star and Reliance & Viancom18 in 2024, Disney Star is renamed to JioStar. Disney India have minority share in JioStar (36.86%). Jiostar now owns JioHotstar. Appropriate action should be taken only when company's ownership and structure are clear. We don't have much information about it for now, except that Disney now considers JioHotstar as "Equity in the income of investees" instead of a subsidiary as mentioned in their annual report[3] Coolduckbird (talk) 09:41, 25 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes, don't change this page, instead create a new one for JioHotstar. As in some other countries in SEA, still the name is same. 115.99.90.9 (talk) 18:17, 24 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
JioHotstar is currently a redirect to this article, because it is a subtopic of Disney+ Hotstar. There is clear consensus against a split per Wikipedia's split and WP:Content fork guidelines. There needs to be enough independent coverage of JioHotstar to warrant a separate article. Trailblazer101 (talk) 18:33, 24 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Jiohotstar

edit

it is correct to make a separate page for jiohotstar so made it 2402:8100:24EA:4C32:202D:E3FF:FE4D:6613 (talk) 04:48, 7 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

There is clear consensus in the above discussion not to create a separate article for this topic. Any attempts to do so under any variable name will be undone. Trailblazer101 (talk) 05:00, 7 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Trailblazer101 Then what are we waiting for? Close the above discussion and proceed for the next step. – 𝙰𝚔𝚜𝚑𝚊𝚍𝚎𝚟™ 🗿 14:10, 7 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
An uninvolved participant should close the discussion. What next step are you referring to? JioHotstar is already adequately covered in this article as appropriate, so there is no need to split this article up into smaller ones. Trailblazer101 (talk) 16:15, 7 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Trailblazer101 The next step I was talking about is to move this article to JioHotstar. There is a clear consensus above. Should I start the RM request now or some time later? – 𝙰𝚔𝚜𝚑𝚊𝚍𝚎𝚟™ 🗿 17:23, 7 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
There is no consensus to make a move. I think you need to learn what WP:Consensus building is before you start deciding what one is. Any JioHotstar article would be a WP:CONTENTFORK. An RM would be improper. Trailblazer101 (talk) 17:59, 7 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I will note, as I already have in the above discussion, that this article should NOT be moved to JioHotstar because that is only the name used for the Indian version, not the service as a whole, which is still the primary name for its operations elsewhere. Disney+ HotstarHotstar – Per WP:COMMONNAME, even if it is not longer official. Because in India (base of operations) it is JioHotstar, a title which is not yet permitted, while elsewhere it has different names including Disney+ Hotstar. Kailash29792 (talk) 10:45, 29 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

It's Jio Hotstar FYI Siddhuk200212 (talk) 04:59, 30 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
That name only applies to the version of the service operating in India. Both Disney+ Hotstar and simply Hotstar are the names operating in other regions of the world. I think editors seriously need to understand this for this article before proclaiming that the Indian-centric version is the sole dominating factor when it is not. This is not the Indian Wikipedia. Trailblazer101 (talk) 05:01, 30 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
The majority of this article is about the Indian service, so giving more consideration to it is warranted. Arnav Bhate (talkcontribs) 04:04, 1 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
But we need to considered all other cases. Even this article is majorly about India version of Disney+ Hotstar, you cannot wiped out the fact that in Southeast Asia, the Disney+ Hotstar still exists. 2001:1970:57A3:F400:BD03:B71B:23D6:3113 (talk) 17:31, 5 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
No one is ignoring that this service operates under different names in various regions. The article presently reflects all of that. The article title can only be one thing at a time, so the commonly used most recent name prevails. "JioHotstar" is still too recent of a name change to catch on as the primary name for all versions of this service. Trailblazer101 (talk) 17:36, 5 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Oppose for now. Given there has recently been a name change with JioHotstar being introduced for the Indian version of this service and the Disney+ branding only being in use for 5 years (since 2020), I do not think it is made clear what the common name truly is. Yes, Hotstar is generally used as a shorthand term and is the longstanding former name of this service (also used for 5 years from 2015 to 2020), but the Disney+ Hotstar name has gained traction in usage by the media since the rebranding occurred (see WP:NAMECHANGES). I feel it may be too soon to rush into determining yet another page move for this article, which could result in some unneeded complications of its scope, and there is no problem with retaining "Hotstar" as a redirect to this article because it still points readers to what they are looking for. Trailblazer101 (talk) 20:02, 29 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Kailash29792:, The discussions have been going on for a while but believe this is the first to move to "Hotstar." Would be open to changing to common name. What is there as far as references showing this is the common name?--CNMall41 (talk) 20:04, 29 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Oppose. Per Trailblazer101. Page move is not needed for now, and redirects still works. There are too many page move request here recently. Enperfectify World (talk) 07:25, 31 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Comment: the nominator has not provided any sources to support their claim. Also, there is nothing like JioHotstar not being permitted. If you can prove it is the common name then the article can be moved to it. Arnav Bhate (talkcontribs) 04:08, 1 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
It seems that my comment was construed by some as support for JioHotstar when I had not made any such stance, so let me state my position. I oppose any name change for now. I believe that in time JioHotstar will be the common name, but right now it is too soon. Arnav Bhate (talkcontribs) 05:52, 3 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment: I too would favour JioHotstar as the title, which these Westerners (sorry no offense) oppose as some other countries haven't adopted the new name. But the country of origin is ultimately what matters right? Cos even though the name HBO Max is still used in some countries, back home in the US it was renamed Max. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:19, 1 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
JioHotstar is not the name that applies to the service as a whole and is only a WP:RECENT name change. Wikipedia never changes titles because the company wants us to, and we almost certainly never change titles to one used in a limited capacity. It has nothing to do with regions, Disney+ Hotstar is the predominantly used name of this service, while Hotstar still remains in use. The India version is only named JioHotstar because it was bought by JioCinema, but the other regional versions of the service remain solely under Disney. This has nothing to do with an alleged Western bias. My arguments are based on title policy and facts of the corporations behind the service. Trailblazer101 (talk) 04:24, 1 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
You have also not provided any sources that indicate the new name of JioHotstar or the old name of simply Hotstar are widely used in sources nowadays, and I find arguments that either would be the primary topic to be lacking. Trailblazer101 (talk) 04:28, 1 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
I suggested simply "Hotstar" as a neutral, non-biased title. Just like most company article titles don't have Pvt Ltd etc. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:31, 1 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Legal corporate names are not the same as this service name. Disney+ Hotstar has been more widely used in sources for the past 5 years now, so I fail to see how "Hotstar" is the primary topic just because JioHotstar was announced for one region. The current article title is not biased, it has been the common name for 5 years and counting. No recent WP:NAMECHANGE automatically reverts the primary topic to a former one that is still used elsewhere. That is just not how article title policy works. Trailblazer101 (talk) 04:33, 1 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment: I believe what you want to say is "Since Disney+ Hotstar & JioHotstar and Hotstar refer to the same service across different regions, why not use a common neutral name 'Hotstar' according to WP:COMMONNAME?" In your defence, the domain name, https://www.hotstar.com/ has not changed ever since the inception of the website. While it may be true that people commonly refer Disney+ Hotstar and JioHotstar as just Hotstar, we need multiple sources to prove this claim. Coolduckbird (talk) 09:31, 5 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
You are right. I just can't prove it. Or is this like Twitter, which hasn't been retitled X on Wiki? Kailash29792 (talk) 09:44, 5 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes, more like Twitter, where status quo is maintained, and on top of that, WP:TOOSOON in this case. As of now, searching just "Hotstar" automatically redirects to this page. Coolduckbird (talk) 16:42, 5 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Support per nom. The "Disney+ Hotstar" name doesn't seem to be accurate any more or used in recent sources, so we can't use that. "JioHotstar" might be the new name, but why not just stick with the simplified WP:CONCISE form which is still sufficiently precise. Revert to the former simple name of Hotstar and then it's accurate whichever way oyu slice it>  — Amakuru (talk) 12:04, 7 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Support: Per nom and Amakuru.
~< Valentinianus I (talk) >~ 03:44, 11 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose moving to "Hotstar". While I understand the desire for a WP:CONCISE title and acknowledge the arguments regarding regional variations and WP:COMMONNAME ambiguity, reverting to the former name "Hotstar" doesn't seem like the most accurate path forward per Wikipedia's naming conventions. The service has undergone a significant, official rebranding in its primary market (India) to JioHotstar. While WP:COMMONNAME is paramount, the nominator themselves noted difficulty proving "Hotstar" remains the dominant common name post-rebrand, especially when compared to the new official name. Sticking with "Disney+ Hotstar" is inaccurate for the primary market, and reverting to "Hotstar" ignores the current official branding. The most logical step, reflecting WP:RECENTISM appropriately, would be to move the page to JioHotstar, aligning with the official name in its base of operations. The continued use of "Disney+ Hotstar" internationally can be clearly explained in the lead section and article body per WP:DETAIL, which is standard practice for entities with regional branding variations. The comparison to Twitter/X is not entirely analogous; here we have a clear, official rebranding in the primary market, making "JioHotstar" a stronger candidate based on current facts than simply reverting to a legacy name. Therefore, the best approach is to reflect the current, official name in the primary market, which is JioHotstar.
UNITED BLASTERS (talk) 17:08, 11 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

*Support per above. Although we couldn't change immediately per WP:COMMONNAME, but for simplicity & per WP:CONCISE, we can change to just Hotstar. Coolduckbird (talk) 09:55, 11 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Change the name to JioHotstar and add Disney+ Hotstar part to Disney+ page.

edit

Hello, this page existed long before Disney plus Hotstar, as Hotstar. Hotstar was solely focused on Indian audience. After the Disney's Fox acquisition they renamed Hotstar to Disney plus Hotstar to match with their Flagship streaming Disney+. And they named their streaming service Disney plus Hotstar in some SEA countries, that's where problem began. As this page was mainly focused on Indian part of business and always was. And I think it can be fixed by putting the SEA market's info on main Disney+ page and keeping only the JioHotstar info here. This page just confuses me and I'm sure many got confused too as they both are two different streaming service. Redoneahmedd (talk) 19:22, 10 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
