Back then in 2010 when Angel Beats! was still airing, I wanted to arrange the opening at any cost, because the music was practically made to be played on the piano. It used to be one of the most hyped opening songs and I wanted to made a special piano cover so I can meet everyone's expectations.
I immediately started to work on the arrangement but I was struggling with the complicated piano parts in the original song. Then a day has become a week and I was still nowhere done with the arrangement. I think ultimately, I put too much pressure on myself and after weeks of endless struggle, I finally gave up my Angel Beats! piano arrangement project. The original sheet is still remaining unfinished at 40 % progress until today.
Now, almost three years later, I've gained enough confidence to give it one more try to redeem my past failure. While arranging this piece, I remembered the hard days from back then when I couldn't make any progress for days. I've decided to put all my heart and soul in this arrangement to make this arrangement the piano piece I have always wished for.
This video is also dedicated to all the people, who have been waiting years for my piano cover of My Soul, your Beats. Thank you very much for listening, because this piece means a lot to me and after uploading this arrangement I have finally found my inner peace again.

Legendary Music of All Times 2.0 imo the story is amazing but the characters are so bad that I dropped it after a couple episodes
I just finished it like 20 mins ago. I understand, and that final ending music is what got me the most. I did cry. It was just so beautiful.

I watched this as a sad lonely 15 year old. I met my husband last year and we watched this together as we dated upon discovering we both loved it as teens. We told each other “I love you” for the first time as this show played. We will have this arrangement played at our wedding. (We are legally married but haven’t had a wedding due to covid and his family living in another country.) This show meant so much to me as a depressed and abused child and it still means so much to me as an adult. Thank you for this arrangement ❤️

After binge watching the show I looked up the op and listened to that about 46 times, then looked up the Japanese lyrics and memorized those, then kooked up the English reformed lyrics and memorized those, then listened to about 253 more covers, them rewatched the anime, all in a span of two days. Now, 3 years and 5 rewatched later, I'm here.

Although this was posted 9 years ago almost to the day, I still find the section at 3:00 to be exceptionally beautiful. The left hand playing a low octave and then ascending and descending chords paired with the large chords in the right hand reminds me of Chopin's first Ballade. Extremely impressive with how you made this section and it almost has a waltz-like feeling. Awesome arrangement.

I really think this is his best piece. Maybe not the most impressive compared to ones like Tokyo Ghoul, but it's the most well-composed. It has such perfect emotional tone and phrasing. Absolutely beautiful.

That is true, but when it was just those two, alone in the afterlife, free to be there forever together, it is sad. Plus the fact Kanade literally had Otonashi's heart added to the feels. It was a bitter sweet ending overall.

Angel Beats tried to fit too much into 13 episodes and because of that, there wasn't enough character development. I'll admit I was absorbed in the sad ending that everybody talks about, but it was only after I took a moment to reflect on it when I thought to myself: why in the world did they do that?
they had no choice there was an accident so the people airing angel beats couldnt make 26 episodes that was supposed to be there really sad :/
Character development WAS lax, but I really don't see an anime's plot as the characters 'developing' per-se. The show had a key message and moral that remained uncorrupted by fanservice, and shone throughout the whole thing. That was, Move on from the past, and accept the life you were given. Accept that life is beautiful. Belligerence and clinging to hate and fear divided the Rebels from the purpose of the world, and Angel tried to show them the way forwards.
Otonashi came along, was special, and saved the people he was with. And even acknowledged his own words and advice that he should let Angel move on, even if it would hurt him horribly.
Too much for 13 episodes, yes, I agree. But I think the uncorruptible morals and execution, for what time was given, was very good. Again, they didn't have more than 30 seconds or so of bullshit fanservice (That I remember), and they reconciled a war in the afterlife into harmony, friends and family and love, which is what is to be desired.

2. Think of all the obliterations that happened during the anime.
3. Think of the ending.
4. Cry because the god damn anime left a cliff hanger with no season 2.
Well there's at least the last scene after the credits of the last episode, where Angel and the main character (I'm sorry, I can't remember japanese names for som reason) meet again. That's maybe a short cliffhanger, but at least you know what happened to them after the obliteration, and you know they will meet again.

I think you were able to bring this song to life because your first attempt was left in a purgatory for awhile. That experience allowed you to breath life into a unique arrangement that is very on brand with the emotional tone of the original.
